HOW
IT ALL STARTED:::
Another
great moment born out of tragic loss. At the end of 2008, teen skater Trey Dixon
suffered a great tragedy. The loss of his mother. A person so dedicated to her
son and a major supporter of his skating, it was a very trying time for him. It
was from this loss that, in an odd way, that the Battle at the Radnor was born.
Employing
the strength his mother instilled within him, Trey did something more than just
just sit around and suffer. He took his love of skateboarding and even more the
love of his mother's spirit and used them both to do something great. He used
what he knew best [skateboarding] to help others who suffered similar losses by
putting together a skateboarding competition at his local skatepark that would
raise money for organizations and hospitals that help people with terminal illnesses
and children who have lost their parents to illness. With the help of his friend,
Julian Smith, the two got to work. The first Battle at the Radnor was born of
a noble cause; the need to do something great in honor of the memory of someone
great... his mom. |
