ABOUT
THE BATTLE AT THE RADNOR:::
Its
a very simple thing. A great local skatepark called the Radnor. A pair of really
motivated teen skateboarders and a collection of skaters and supporters of skateboarding.
The first battle started simply by word of mouth. Two teens, Trey Dixon and Julian
Smith, decided to get to work to hold a local skate competition that would not
only be fun for all of the local skaters, but would also help raise money for
specific causes. They selected the organizations that would benefit from the proceeds
and got to work organizing. In a short time, they were able to secure a couple
of sponsors that donated the prizes given to the winners of the competitions.
The first event was basically one very large GAME OF SKATE. After spreading the
word around town via phone calls, text messages, Myspace & Facebook messages
and so on, a small but solid crowd of skaters showed up, signed up and competed.
It was great success.
With the success of the first BATR behind them yet
still fresh in the brains, it was time to start planning the second event. One
that is expected to be bigger and better... More skaters competing, more types
of contests and of course, more significant sponsors. With a newly selected charity
to be the benefit from the attendance numbers, BATR2 is expected to be truly the
start of something great. |
